About the show

For years, Jono Tait has been making music across the Cape Town scene — as the singer, guitarist and songwriter behind Hatchetman, and through a host of other musical adventures. Now, it’s time to bring his own songs into the spotlight through a Solo Album, the first in a career that spans almost twenty years and 7 studio releases with various bands and musical projects.

More on the Album:

The album is well underway and approximately half funded at this point 🙂 The musicians have all been paid, studio time is approximately one third accounted for and mastering (the process to bring it up to release quality) needs to be sorted. Feel free to contact me if you’re curious about how much this all costs!

Some extraordinary musicians, including Kevin Gibson, John Ellis, Jennifer Hall, Steph Courneloup and Ronan Skillen have made HUGE contributions. These musicians are all people with whom there is a personal connection – no-one involved in this album isn’t a personal friend.

A huge shout-out must also go to Engineer par excellence, the inimitable Fernando “Hotmix” Perdigao for giving selflessly of his time, studio, experience, patience (!) and honestly, some of the best ears in the business.

A special thank you also to Derek Gripper for a truly memorable and special morning spent with him recording two of the fully acoustic tracks on the album.

More on the Artist

Drawing on the great singer-songwriter tradition, Jono’s music is shaped by a love of honest songwriting, memorable melodies and the artists who made the song itself an art form. Expect a night of original songs, stories and the kind of intimate live performance that makes a room like Alma so special.

There’s a lovely symmetry to this one: Jono spends much of his time keeping Cape Town’s live music scene alive from behind the scenes at The Alma Café. This time, he gets to step out from behind the curtain and share a little more of his own musical world in the space that has done so much to shape his own.

The Fundraiser:

While the proceeds of the ticket sales will nominally go towards the funding of the album, any donations you would like to make can be made into my personal bank account. If you leave your name and a contact number in the reference, you will receive the album in its digital (and highest audio quality) entirety as well as a PDF containing lyrics, photos, stories and all kinds of trivia surrounding the album 🙂
